I had a GOOD shot at promotion in the Division of Youth Services. They don't come open very often, and there's only really one more that'll come open in the next several years at my facility. I withdrew my application the day of the interview and had a voicemail from the assistant facility manager shortly thereafter to appear in his office. But, I don't know I want to do that the rest of my life, and it'd take at least 15 years for the retirement/advancement cycle to get me much over $40K a year running a facility with over 60 staff and 60 kids, where the teachers make $43K.

It pretty much sealed the deal-I'm going to take my personal business to the next level, and/or I'm going to get a graduate degree in psychology and open my own practice.

So...Oh yeah 2 ...good luck to me! Haha.

Thanks guys...I'm mostly just trying not to short-change myself. I'm think that I'm a pretty sharp guy and feel I can be successful anyway I want to. There was a lot of pressure to do this, even within myself, but I feel I've done the right thing for sure. Time will tell...haha.

We should team up. Psych grad and an English Major, just like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, give or take. That's a recipe for world domination, or at least a increased chance of survival for the impeding zombie apocalypse of 2012.

I do group-based residential youth counseling. If the kid is sent to a residential facility like mine by the court system, we decide what they will work on, and they stay until they do. Different facilities and groups do it different ways, but my group focuses on therapy. We deal with theft, trauncy, sexual offenders, murderers, etc. It's rewarding but trying work. We may have a kid for 3 years because we don't feel he's ready to be released (i.e., sexual offenders often take up to 3 years of treatment). The program uses peer influence on the youth, and often utilizes family therapy to help shore up family structure.
